Did you sweat through your clothes, burst into tears for no reason or want to scream at someone for chewing too loudly today?
Welcome — you’ve come to the right place.
This is a newsletter all about perimenopause, menopause and the cultural experience of navigating middle age (and society’s expectations that come with it). Each week through the end of the year, I’ll be connecting with experts to help you — and me — understand symptoms and decipher new medical research.
The 19th News was launched out of a desire to see better coverage of issues that disproportionately impact women and LGBTQ+ people. Six thousand people hit menopause each day, but it often goes undercovered. We’re drawing on our expertise to change that.
We’re also asking you to join us in conversation about all the thoughts, feelings and pro tips you have for navigating this season of life. Share your thoughts and questions — I’ll try and address them in one of my newsletters.
As a veteran reporter who has spent decades covering both reproductive health and how gender intersects with culture, I’m excited to navigate middle age (and all of its many feelings) right alongside you.
Can’t wait to keep talking! Oh, and invite your friends too!
Jennifer Gerson
Reporter, The 19th
